WATER-BASED INK
Water-based screen printing delivers a soft, breathable print that feels like part of the fabric itself. Unlike plastisol inks, which sit on top of the garment, water-based inks are absorbed into the shirt’s fibers, creating a lightweight, vintage-feel finish that ages beautifully over time.
On darker garments, regular water-based inks work best, but they often require an underbase; a thin layer of white ink printed before the colors. This underbase brightens the design, ensuring vibrant and consistent colors. While it slightly reduces the softness of the print and adds a subtle satin sheen, it provides the perfect backdrop for rich, eye-catching designs.
The result is a print that’s comfortable to wear, environmentally friendly, and visually striking, making water-based screen printing a top choice for premium fashion and lifestyle apparel.
DISCHARGE PRINTING
Water-based discharge printing is a specialty technique that creates the softest possible print by using ink mixed with a discharge agent. During the curing process, this agent removes the original pigment from the garment’s cotton fibers and replaces it with a custom pigment mixed into the ink. After the bonding agent is washed out, you’re left with a print that is entirely pigment; lightweight, breathable, and virtually undetectable to the touch.
This process works best on 100% cotton garments, as the discharge agent reacts only with natural cotton fibers. On poly blends, the result will be a much fainter, vintage style print.
Color reactivity can vary depending on the garment’s original dye. Black cotton tees tend to produce the most vivid and consistent results, while certain bright colors; such as red or royal blue, may not discharge well, leading to a less pronounced effect.
The end result is a premium, high comfort print ideal for fashion forward apparel where both softness and style matter.
